The highest number of families (33 per cent) belong to the Marathi community followed by Gujarati (23 per cent) and Uttar Pradesh-Rajasthan (19 per cent). All major religious groups (Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists and Jains) reported positive attitudes towards homosexuals, with the community reporting the highest level of support (73 per cent) and the lowest level of opposition (35 per cent) to a gay person getting married to someone of the same sex.


Of the Indian religions, Hinduism reported the highest level of support (72 per cent) and lowest level of opposition (31 per cent) to a gay person marrying someone of the same sex. Overall, the highest levels of support and opposition to gay marriage came from urban India, where more than 50 per cent of the population.

Surprisingly, the highest levels of opposition to gay marriage came from Maharashtra with 38 per cent opposed and 21 per cent supportive. Opposition levels were higher in Maharashtra than in other states surveyed, along with the prevalence of the Indian religion Hinduism (30 per cent).


Younger and urban Indians showed the highest levels of support for gay marriage, with over 50 per cent.

The findings also highlight the desire for people to move to urban areas in order to live closer to their partners (31 per cent) and move out of their parents’ house (26 per cent). While about 40 per cent of couples would like to work full-time, around 10 per cent of women have to choose between work and family.


For people in the Indian subcontinent, the highest levels of support for gay marriage came from eastern states (16 per cent) like Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal, and from north and west India (around 15 per cent) including the states of Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat.

Indian Youth Festival – Children's Festival will be held from 25th July to 28th July 2017, from 2 PM to 6 PM.


The festival will be organized by TATA Group, a Tata group company. The festival will include a wide variety of events including Bollywood dance and music, children's entertainment shows, film screening, Bhangra dancing and many more activities.


This time, The festival will be organized at the premises of Plantation Walk. There will be a screening of Mickey and Mallory at the premises of Plantation Walk.
