Essay on Indian Agriculture
In this paper, the author has tried to show that the time has come when the high-poverty countries of India and China should prepare for the shifting of the pressure from the primary sector to the tertiary sector. This essay has been written to support the statement that "the new areas of competition and their targets have to shift from primary to secondary, then to tertiary." It is not an attempt to show or prove any kind of anachronism or a clash of civilisations, but just trying to indicate a change of emphasis from the primary to the tertiary sector.
The agricultural growth in India has slowed down during recent years. In 2015-16, the growth in real agricultural income at basic prices was only 2.9% compared to 10.6% in 2011-12, despite the rise in growth rate of per capita consumption. This decline is visible as the rate of growth of real agricultural income at basic prices in terms of 2005-06 prices, was 6.6% in 2014-15, much lower than the rate of 4.3% during 2013-14. The decline in agricultural growth, the slow recovery in the growth rate of per capita consumption and the contraction in food grains production and contraction in exports are indicators of the slowing growth of agriculture, especially in the small and medium agricultural sector. The decline in agricultural growth was visible also in the index of real agricultural income which is not linked to the prices of food commodities. This decline in the growth rate of agricultural growth was largest in the case of per capita food grains production, the lowest growth in the case of india.
Indian Agriculture field: Housing of agricultural field is now a problem. Although the land is available in agriculture field, landowners don’t like to hand over the field to people or can’t afford to do so because of lack of resources. Though cultivators don’t want to maintain farms but still they come in search of work. This is the reason that the field needs to be maintained properly. If the field is properly maintained, it will be easy for the cultivators to come and work on it. If the field is not properly maintained, then it is tough to find the work on it.
